Let me just state that I re-wrote this review after further analysis of the film.
"Brutally overwritten, smug, and self-indulgent to no discernible point" Walter Chaw from Film Freak Central
I think Juno was a great film to go out see in theaters, a movie that I recommend anyone go out and see. I do however feel it was a bit over hyped. The media brought so much attention to this film, not because it's that great but because it was written by an x-stripper who has no prior experience with writing films.
I'm not saying I didn't enjoy Juno I just feel it was too perfect and a bit over the top. Between the soundtrack and the nerdiness of every character, there was almost nothing realistic about the movie. It seemed to me that every line of dialog had a forced, sarcastic, comedic undertone that didn't seem natural and no character was entirely normal. If it wasn't for the good cast the movie would be nothing more than talking heads. There's a certain point in life when seriousness comes into play, I think teenage pregnancy would certainly expose this truth. All in all, he film really lacked a sense of reality, the fact that there were no wasted characters and no wasted moments in the film, made it feel fake . I can't image that getting pregnant at sixteen is that funny and that easy, is it?
All in all, I don't think Juno was bad, it kept me entertained, introduced me to a few new songs and was well worth the ten dollars I paid to see the film. I applaud Diablo Cody for her writing and admire Jason Reitman for his direction. Ellen Page was perfect for the role of Juno and the supporting cast was exceptional. Don't expect to walk out of theaters with a new sense of morality, just go in for a good laugh and walk out with a big smile.
