GREAT 9/11 short films (SEAN PENN)

Here are two GREAT 9/11 short films, they're from a collection of shorts all centered around the theme of the tragic events of 9/11. Directors from all over the world shot shorts for this release.

The first is by a Mexican director, Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu (21 grams, Amores Perros, Babel). In my opinion he is one of the greatest directors of our time, if you haven't seen any of his movies you should check them out!



The next one is by American actor and director, Sean Penn. Man shouldn't need an introduction.



I couldn't find the last one on youtube that I liked, but it's by a French director named, Jérôme Horry. Not familiar with his work but you can check out all the shorts by buying it on DVD. CLICK HERE for more on that.

6 years after 9/11-TODAY just a TUESDAY

I'm sure everyone is aware of the fact that it's September 11th today. Other than today being the day that Kanye West and 50 Cent battle it out on the charts, it's also the day that over one thousand innocent lives were lost. Unlike other organization or websites, I'm not going to ask you for your money at the end of this, I'm just offering you my thoughts. Here's my reflection on TODAY.

Six years ago I was an 11 year old kid. Like everyone, I can remember exactly where I was and how I felt on 9/11. I was a 6th grader in middle school, naive to politics, terrorism and the sense of security. When we got news of the event I can remember everyone gossiping about what they thought had happened. I can remember people crying and everyone calling their parents to see if they were alright. My dad worked in New York(still does to this day) but I can't remember being scared, I can't even remember being sad until I got home that day and found out just how bad 9/11 was.

Six years later, I'm a young man. I've developed a better understanding for politics, terrorism and a sense of security. We all know now exactly how the plot to destroy the the twin towers un-folded. Six years later, feels like 6 months later, the memory is still fresh in my mind.

Today my school planed a ceremonial assembly outside in our quad. I guess no one checked the weather because it has literally rained all day. Our student government put up a sign that has been re-used for a couple years, by the road way so everyone could see it; I saw my dean of students put up dozens of flags, I guess to represent the United States of America? Of course due to the rain we didn't go outside, everyone would have gotten wet. I found it ironic how it rained on September 11th. It rained so much the ink from the sign dripped off the banner-it dripped off and the sign eventually fell to the ground. The symbolizism was so obvious to me, but I didn't hear anyone else bring it up. Now that I think of it, it rains all the time in the fall, sometimes once a week-was it all just a coincidence? I guess that just shows how much symbols are bullshit and luck. A couple people might have stopped to look at the sign but other than that, it felt like tuesday to me. I had a test, and I still had to go to all my classes, all the kids were just as obnoxious and disrespectful as they would be on a normal day. People walked by the sign with out even acknowledging it's existence. It would have taken a couple guys less than a minute to revive the sign, but no one bothered to do so. I would pay someone money to tell me what the sign actually said. Instead of the ceremony outside, we said a prayer for all those that were lost, ESPECIALLY the alumni from my school.

As my day comes to an end, it's still drizzling every now and then. 6 years later, a boy has become a man, a nightmare has become a memory and a tragedy has become a Tuesday.

Kanye West @ the VMA's

I don't want to get into this too much because there's better things I can be talking about instead of Kanye, but I still feel it needs to be addressed. Basically, Kanye was a little pissed that he didn't get ANY awards last night after being nominated in 5 categories. He performed, his albums coming out tommorow(9/11), he's been out in vegas promoting and the release date is one of the biggest in music history.

With all do respect to MTV, what the fuck were they thinking? Kanye is a very sensitive artist when it comes to awards, as most rappers are(probably everyone aswell). We all remember the grammy's and last years European VMAs(stormed stage). My question is, why would MTV mess around with Kanye? Why would they ask him to perform and nominate him FIVE TIMES just to send him home empty handed. I almost consider that to be disrespectful, they're using the man to boost ratings-the least they could do is give him a moon man.

If you look at everyone else that was nominated more than once(JT, Beyonce, Fall out Boy, Rhianna,etc), they all won atleast once! HAHA, everyone found away to go home a winner, except Kanye(even Gym Class Heroes). I don't blame Kanye for saying he's done with MTV, it looked like he was working his ass off to bring some energy to the show, the least they could do is REWARD him for that.

anyway, go cop Kanye's Album, "Graduation" tommorow on September 11th.
